Supported Samsung Knox Standard devices

To avoid Knox activation errors that prevent MDM enrollment, the Company Portal app only attempts Samsung Knox activation during MDM enrollment if the device appears in the list of supported Knox devices. Devices that don't support Samsung Knox activation enroll as standard Android devices. A Samsung device might have some model numbers that support Knox, while others don't. Verify Knox compatibility with your device reseller before you buy and deploy Samsung devices.

Note

Enrolling Samsung Knox devices may require you to enable access to Samsung servers.

The following list of Samsung device models do not support Knox. They are enrolled as native Android devices by the Company Portal app for Android:

Windows PC software client

An Intune software client can be deployed and installed on Windows PCs as an alternate enrollment method. This functionality is only available using the Intune classic portal. You can use the Intune software client to manage 10 and later PCs with the exception of Windows 10 Home edition.

Microsoft Intune will retire support for the Silverlight-based Intune console on October 15, 2020. This retirement includes ending support for the Silverlight console configured PC software client (also known as the PC agent).

Intune supported web browsers

Different administrative tasks require that you use one of the following administrative websites.

The following browsers are supported for these portals:

  • Microsoft Edge (latest version)
  • Microsoft Internet Explorer 11
  • Safari (latest version, Mac only)
  • Chrome (latest version)
  • Firefox (latest version)

Intune classic portal

The Intune classic portal is only used for managing devices enrolled with the Intune PC software client (https://manage.microsoft.com). The Intune classic portal requires Silverlight browser support.

The following Silverlight browsers support the Intune console:

  • Internet Explorer 10 or later
  • Google Chrome (versions prior to version 42)
  • Mozilla Firefox with Silverlight enabled (versions prior to version 56)

Note

Microsoft Edge and mobile browsers are not supported for the Intune classic portal because they do not support Microsoft Silverlight.

Only users with service administrator permissions or tenant administrators with the global administrator role can sign in to this portal. To access the administration console, your account must have a license to use Intune and a sign-in status of Allowed.

System state and persistence

The machine that provides your Cloud Shell session is temporary, and it is recycled after your session is inactive for 20 minutes. Cloud Shell requires an Azure file share to be mounted. As a result, your subscription must be able to set up storage resources to access Cloud Shell. Other considerations include:

  • With mounted storage, only modifications within the $Home directory are persisted.
  • Azure file shares can be mounted only from within your assigned region.
    • In Bash, run env to find your region set as ACC_LOCATION.

Browser support

Cloud Shell supports the latest versions of Microsoft Edge, Microsoft Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, and Apple Safari. Safari in private mode is not supported.

Copy and paste

  • Windows: Ctrl-c to copy is supported but use Shift-insert to paste.
    • FireFox/IE may not support clipboard permissions properly.
  • Mac OS: Cmd-c to copy and Cmd-v to paste.

For a given user, only one shell can be active

Users can only launch one type of shell at a time, either Bash or PowerShell. However, you may have multiple instances of Bash or PowerShell running at one time. Swapping between Bash or PowerShell by using the menu causes Cloud Shell to restart, which terminates existing sessions. Alternatively, you can run bash inside PowerShell by typing bash, and you can run PowerShell inside bash by typing pwsh.

Cloud Shell is intended for interactive use cases. As a result, any long-running non-interactive sessions are ended without warning.

Permissions are set as regular users without sudo access. Any installation outside your $Home directory is not persisted.

Editing .bashrc or $PROFILE

Take caution when editing .bashrc or PowerShell's $PROFILE file, doing so can cause unexpected errors in Cloud Shell.

PowerShell limitations

AzureAD module name

The AzureAD module name is currently AzureAD.Standard.Preview, the module provides the same functionality.

SqlServer module functionality

The SqlServer module included in Cloud Shell has only prerelease support for PowerShell Core. In particular, Invoke-SqlCmd is not available yet.

Default file location when created from Azure drive:

Using PowerShell cmdlets, users can not create files under the Azure: drive. When users create new files using other tools, such as vim or nano, the files are saved to the $HOME by default.

GUI applications are not supported

If the user runs a command that would create a Windows dialog box, one sees an error message such as: Unable to load DLL 'IEFRAME.dll': The specified module could not be found. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x8007007E).

Large Gap after displaying progress bar

If the user performs an action that displays a progress bar, such as a tab completing while in the Azure: drive, then it is possible that the cursor is not set properly and a gap appears where the progress bar was previously.
